Transferable drug resistance in enterobacteria isolated from urban infants.
Antibiotic-resistant enterobacteria, the vast majority of which carried transmissible R factors, were isolated from 81 out of a total of 100 healthy infants. There was surprisingly little correlation between previous antibacterial therapy and the resistant enterobacterial flora.
متن کاملTransferable drug resistance among Enterobacteriaceae isolated from cases of neonatal diarrhea in calves and piglets.
Fecal specimens were collected on 22 different Nebraska ranches and at the Department of Veterinary Science from young calves and pigs with neonatal diarrhea. Enterobacteriaceae isolated from these fecal specimens were screened for resistance to tetracycline, streptomycin, sulfamethizole, kanamycin, chloramphenicol, colistin, nitrofurantoin, and nalidixic acid. Of the 92 strains studied, 57 wer...
متن کاملPlasmid coding for transferable drug resistance in bacteria isolated from cultured rainbow trout.
The occurrence of drug resistance and plasmid-mediated transferability was investigated in 170 strains belonging to eight bacterial groups isolated from cultured rainbow trout. It was found that 87.6% of the strains were resistant to at least one drug, with the highest percentages of resistance being detected for ampicillin (54.7%), sulfadiazine (46.5%), nitrofurantoin (38.2%), and chlorampheni...
متن کاملTransferable drug resistance among Enterobacteriaceae isolated from human urinary tract infections.
Fifteen sulfonamide-resistant cultures isolated from urinary tract infections in eastern Nebraska were screened for transferable drug resistance by three methods. Seven of the 15 resistant cultures could transfer resistance of varying levels to two or more chemotherapeutic agents. Transfer of drug resistance occurred without accompanying transfer of chromosomal traits and required cell to cell ...
متن کاملdistribution of phage types and transferable drug resistance in shigellae
a total of 610 strains of shigellae isolated from cases of diarrhea in iran during 1962-73 were studied with respect to their phage type, as well as antibiotic resistance and transferable drug resistance along with serotyping. it was shown that there was some relation between serotypes and phage types but no association could be found between phage types and resistance pattern.
